Speaking of Jet-Lag

Filed under: Ireland — Chris at 12:16 am on Monday, August 31, 2009

Well, like I mentioned yesterday, jet-lag sucks.

Megan woke up for 3 hours or so this morning, and I woke up around 6. After flopping around for nearly an hour I got up, grabbed a couple croissants and a coffee from a McDonalds cafe and now I’m here playing with my shiny new MacBook Pro. (Have I mentioned how much I love this computer?) I left Megan one of the croissants and a note, hopefully she sees it when she wakes up….

Anyways, about the only thing on our to-do list today is the SWAP/USIT orientation at 11. Tomorrow we’re off on the train to Cork and then you have about as much an idea as I do. We’ll probably go hit up the Guinness Factory today, possibly a couple other touristy sites, possibly buy cell phones and potentially try to open a bank account. Based on my experience in Scotland (circa 2005), the people we’ll meet at the orientation will have a lot to do with how our day turns out.

Now I’m going to pull some of the pictures off our camera and upload them to Flickr. We forgot the camera while riding the hop-on-hop-off bus yesterday, but remembered it later in the day. Prepare for a random photo-post later!

Dublin-tastic

We’re here!

Honestly, landing at 7:30am wasn’t the smartest thing I’ve ever done. We made it through customs and into the city by ~9am, and our hotel wasn’t ready till 2pm. We walked some, and finally decided to buy tickets for the hop-on hop-off bus tour. We rode it twice around it’s route because it gave us a relatively interesting way to spend three hours. Also, nothing’s open in Ireland on a Sunday. Well, at least not until noon.

Here’s hoping we’re on track to kill this jet-lag pretty darn quick.

Anyways, now we’ve had a good nap and we’re headed out for food and Mass. Tomorrow is our SWAP/USIT orientation and the day after we’re off to Cork!

Bored in Chicago

Megan and I chilling at Chicago O'Hare's International Terminal

Location: Terminal 5, Chicago O’Hare International Airport.
Time Elapsed: 8 Hours, 20 Minutes
Cups of Coffee/Tea: Chris (4 Coffee), Megan (1 Tea)
Naps: 2 (both Chris)
Security Checks: 2 each
Cost of 24 Hours of WiFi: $6.95 (each)

Being bored at O’Hare during a 7 hour layover: Priceless

It was nice that the United folks checked our luggage straight through to Dublin. The idea of hauling our combined eight pieces of luggage from Terminal one to Terminal 5 was not appealing. Thanks to Megan’s Mom for driving us to the airport at 5am, and to both her and my Mom for putting together an awesome BBQ on Thursday night. It was great to see everyone, and there were so many babies there!

A plane just pulled up, and I think it’s ours!

Our Aer Lings Airbus at Terminal 5, Chicago O'Hare

Anyways, I miss y’all already. That is, when I’m not being tired.

I’ll share this post on Facebook, but I won’t do that for all of them. If you know how to use an RSS reader you can subscribe to our blog here or you can sign up for email updates below!
